starting preschool

Each child is very individual and the time it takes to settle in to a new environment or group can vary greatly. Here at Roundabout we recognise the importance of working together with parents to ensure each child feels supported, comfortable and happy at Pre-school. We endeavour to help each child develop the necessary skills to make the transition to primary school as smooth as possible.

Each child will be offered three one-hour sessions to help them settle in before they start.

What to wear

In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including messy ones, it is best to send children dressed in clothes that are easily washable or not too new. Simple clothing which they can handle themselves will enable them to go to the toilet when they want to and to put on and take off their outdoor clothes without being too dependent on other people’s help. This helps them build independence.

What to bring

Please pack a spare pair of clothes and underwear in case of accidents or messy play. We also ask parents to pack nappies for those children that need them. In colder weather, please pack warm clothing, hats and gloves, as we often play outside in the Winter. Wellies are also recommended for outside play at all times of year.

We ask children to come with their own named water bottle.

lunches & snacks

Full day and afternoon children can bring a healthy packed lunch, unless they are opting for cooked lunches which we provide. Please note we are a nut free zone, so please do not pack anything which may contain nuts. We provide a healthy snack and drink of milk or water during every session.

We now also offer hot lunches which are provided by the Primary school. These cost £2.35 per lunch and can be ordered each week. To view current menu options please visit: Menus | Our Winter 2023 Menus are now Live! | Eats (eats-catering.co.uk)
