Newsletter June 2015

Hope everyone enjoyed the half term break. This half term we will be focussing on animal songs and rhymes. We will be encouraging the children to share their experiences of animals with us and talking about their favourite stories, rhymes and songs. We’ve been amazed at the knowledge that some of the children have about creatures that live in the sea and on land. We will make sure we provide plenty of resource books to increase their knowledge and answer any questions they might have.

In our themed area, we will be playing with props from the Meg and Mog stories. We’ll be making spells like Meg, giving the children plenty opportunities to write and draw. We will be encouraging the children to use their imaginations, using the props to make up their own stories.

On the interest table, we will have a different song each week. We’ll start with ‘I’m an elephant, and I walk like this’. We’ll be helping the children to learn the words and we’ll use the songs in our music and movement sessions.

We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead with our zoo visit on the 10th of June and Sport’s day on the 4th of July. We’ll be taking lots of photos at the zoo to use in our activities.

We hope you’ll be able to join us for our sport’s day picnic this year. It’ll be held on the school field from11a.m. and there will be lots of fun races for the children to take part in.

Our theme will be American (4th of July!) Last year, we made a leaver’s book for the children who are going to Reception in September 2015. We had a lot of very positive comments from parents and have decided to repeat this. We’ll be presenting them to the children after the races and before we have our picnic.

It seems as if the weather is turning much warmer and summer is finally on the way!   We will continue to use our garden as much as possible as the children seem to love playing outside, we strongly believe that most activities that can be done inside can be done outside too!  Therefore, we would ask that you send in suitable protection from the sun, eg hats and sun cream.  We have a plastic storage box for keeping the cream safe and to avoid the possibility of sharing sun creams, we will leave it on the signing in table at drop off / pick up times.  We would ask that all bottles are named and left in the box please, however, we do have spare labels available just in case!

Finally, a parents evening is planned for Monday 6th July but please don’t wait till then if there’s anything you want to discuss with us.  We are here to help.

Best wishes,

Fiona, Kath, Pip, Jo, Beccy and Jane
