Welcome back to pre-school!
We hope you have had a wonderful summer, the staff are all looking forward to hearing some exciting stories about the adventures people had over the past few weeks. We extend a very warm welcome to our new children and their families who are joining our pre-school, we hope they will all have many happy times with us.
As in previous newsletters, we will explain what we will be focussing on over the next few weeks. Children sometimes seem very excited to share their news with parents/carers. We have found that when families know what ‘topic’ we are talking about each week children can be supported to look for things either in the home or when out and about, this helps to reinforce children’s understanding.
This term, we are talking about patterns. As we have a wide age range of children we will be looking at this from a variety of different ways, including colours and the similarities or differences in types of pattern.
The staff work closely with each other, sharing observations about children’s achievements or identifying some areas where children might need a little more support. We hope you would like to work with us to support your child within their home environment, for example, you might find some patterned clothes when getting ready in the morning, or maybe your child could help you to sort out the washing.

We have turned the themed corner into a little bedroom, we have added a clothes rail so the children will have free access to a variety of dressing up clothes. We hope this will also encourage some hand/eye
co-ordination skills by putting clothes back onto a hanger and hanging it up! We also have a little bed with some cuddly teddies and some favourite bedtime stories. Throughout the first week or so, the children will be helping to decorate this area by making some wall paper and some pictures.
We have a PE session on Monday mornings which takes place in the Primary School Hall, could we ask that children who attend this session bring a change of clothes; shorts, t-shirt and plimsoles. We encourage children to find their own bags, take them off the hooks and then get changed as much as they can into their PE kits. This is a really important opportunity to encourage them to become more independent in preparation for school. We also hope have weekly visits on a Tuesday morning to the Forest School area and we do play out in the garden every day. Therefore, could we ask that your child comes to pre-school with suitable outdoor clothing according to the weather that day albeit; sun hat, or wellies and waterproof coats! You are very welcome to leave a pair of named wellies at pre-school, we have a shelf for them just by the entrance.
We have arranged for Tempest Photography to come on Thursday 22nd September from 9.00am to take individual pictures of children (or with their siblings), these do make beautiful Christmas presents if you’d like to get organised ahead of December! If you have children in Nursery/Primary School they are very welcome to come for a group sibling photo, please bring them as close to 9.00am as possible so they are not too late for school. Additionally, if your child is not normally here on that day, you are very welcome to bring them along to be photographed, however, we would ask that you wait with them so that our staff ratios are not affected.
Please find attached a tear off slip, we would be grateful if you could complete and return it. This is to ensure we have up-to-date emergency contact numbers should we need to make contact with you for any reason. Should your child not be attending a session, please could you be kind and let us know. We do appreciate that it can be difficult to get in contact, but we would be grateful if you could either leave a message on the answer machine or drop us an e-mail, our contact details are on the previous page.
We would encourage you to join our blog and receive updates about the activities we have done during the week. Follow the link to our website: http://debenhamroundaboutpreschool.co.uk you will see a prompt on the left hand side ‘SIGN UP TO OUR BLOG’. Just add your e-mail address and click ‘Sign up’. It is very easy to ‘unsubscribe’ once your child has left pre-school! We would also like to draw your attention our website. Under the section ‘Info for parents/carers’ there is a link to ‘Think U Know’ this is an internet safety guide for parents, children and teachers. We believe that as the world is becoming ever more dependent on using the internet in day to day life, it is very important that we are all aware how we can safeguard children and strive to keep them as safe as possible. The website has some advice, videos and articles for families about internet safety which we feel may be useful, particularly for those families with slightly older children.
One final note, the school has asked that children do not play on the ‘All Weather Play equipment’ at the end of the school day. The equipment is not monitored by staff at this time and the school is attempting to reduce the risk of any potential accidents should children be playing on it unsupervised.
If you have any queries regarding your child’s education, then please do not hesitate to talk to us, or drop us an email, please do not feel you have to wait until parent’s evening at the end of term.
With kindest regards
Pip, Kath, Jo, Beccy, Jane, Simone
