Welcome back to pre-school!
We hope you had an enjoyable half term holiday. The staff are very much looking forward to another busy term at pre-school, please find below some of the topics we will be talking about over the next few weeks.
Once again, we have been sharing our observations about childrens’ interests to support their learning and development. Each week we will be transforming our ‘themed corner’ into a different story based around one of our story sacks. Story sacks are a wonderful, visual way to engage children whilst helping to promote early literacy skills. Each ‘sack’ contains a story, props or puppets that children can play with, we find this helps them to become very involved and maintains their attention. We will also use the stories to support other areas of learning. For example, we start with ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, we will be counting out chairs, beds, bowls and spoons, introducing mathematical language about quantity and variants of size. We will also be ‘writing’ letters to the three bears. We will support children’s creative learning by making some textured teddies for a display whilst encouraging them to use language to describe these different textures. Finally, to support children’s physical development we will go for a walk around the field, use the trim trail and look for a bear hiding in the forest!
Our ‘interest table’ will be focussing on ‘Opposites’. We have found during our music sessions children are growing in confidence using words to talk about opposites eg, fast/slow and quiet/loud etc. Therefore, we are extending this to other areas. We have listed below what we will be looking each week. Children are sometimes very excited to share items found from home or on the journey to pre-school, so perhaps you could support them by encouraging them to find something to share with the group. This is a really valuable way to encourage children to grow in confidence talking in front of others, but also offers the opportunity to encourage children to listen to what others have to say!

A couple of reminders please! Every Monday morning, we have a PE session in the School hall. Could we ask that children who come for this session bring a change of clothes; shorts, t-shirt and plimsoles. We encourage the children to find their own bags, take them off the hooks, and then get changed as much as they can into their PE kits. This is a really important opportunity to encourage them to become more independent in preparation for School.
We would like to remind you that we play out in the garden every day and on a Tuesday morning we do try and visit the Forest School area. Could we ask that your child comes to pre-school with suitable outdoor clothing according to the weather, wellies, waterproof coats, gloves etc. If they arrive in wellies, please could they have some other shoes to wear inside, as the floor can get very muddy and slippery.
Additionally, following some recent First Aid training, we would ask that if grapes, cherry tomatoes and olives are included in packed lunches, please could they be cut into half lengthways.
In case you are not aware, we do have a blog which is updated thoughout the week. It outlines what we will doing during the week and also has some photos of the children doing the activities that day. We would encourage you to join our blog and receive the updates, it is a great way for us to share our experiences with you and is very simple to subscribe to! Follow the link to our website: http://debenhamroundaboutpreschool.co.uk you will see a prompt on the left hand side ‘SIGN UP TO OUR BLOG’. Just add your e-mail address and click ‘Sign up’. It is very easy to ‘unsubscribe’ once your child has left pre-school!
Finally, listed overleaf are some important dates for your diary, including parents evening. We would like to stress that your child’s Learning Journey is available for you to read at any time, you do not have to wait until parents evening. If you have any queries then please do come and talk to us. If you are unable to come into pre-school do call us, or leave a message on the answer machine and we will call you back as soon as possible. If you would prefer, we can be contacted by e-mail at: email@example.com
With kindest regards from us all.
