Movement Play

Hello all,

The children have really embraced our new movement play area. We have added this to our setting as we feel it is really important for children to be able to have access to a safe space where they can progress in their physical development at all times, just as much as having access to all other areas of the curriculum such as maths and literacy.

Babies and young children move all the time because it helps them to build both their body and their brain. Lots of skills in their lives are helped by the movement play they love so much. (

It also helps the children with boundaries, they independently take their shoes off to play and it teaches them about turn-taking – they know that only three children can use the movement area at one time. They also learn to negotiate space safely and be respectful of others.

Thursday 26th September 2019 (from 8:50am) – Tempest

Just a reminder for Thursday 26th September  – Photography in session for individual (and siblings) photos. All are welcome to attend, however, if your child is not normally in for this session please stay with them so we can maintain the correct ratios. If you think you would like to come along, please let us know so we have an approximate idea of numbers – thank you!

Chicken pox, measles, shingles and the live nasal flu vaccination

Dear Parents/Carers

Nasal spray live flu vaccination.

As the winter fast approaches, children are now being offered a live flu vaccination in the form of a nasal spray.  As one of the children in our pre-school is receiving medical treatment for cancer this puts them at risk if they are exposed to this live vaccination (when administered by nasal spray) if they are not vaccinated themselves.    As the vaccination process is currently underway across the county, please could you let us know immediately if your child has had or is due to have the vaccination.

We do hope that you understand the health and wellbeing of the child in our care who is at risk does depend on the co-operation of all other parents and we hope you will help us.  We will keep you updated once we have received some more instructions and advice.

Once again, we would like to thank everyone for taking to time to keep us informed should their child have come into contact with chicken pox, measles, shingles and the live nasal flu vaccination.

If you have any queries, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

With kind regards

Rachel Bargewell

Pre-school Leader

A busy week!

The children have continued to settle back into preschool for the first full week. We have to remind ourselves it is still only the first week as they are coping extremely well!

Just want to say a huge thank you for all of your amazing support this week and your fantastic feedback when the inspector called! We really do appreciate it! We await the report in due course.

Just a reminder that there will be P.E in the School hall on Monday morning. Please bring a change of shorts, t-shirt and plimsols. It is not a necessity, we just like to encourage their independence and getting them started on dressing themselves with support.

Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome back!

Hello all,

Welcome back to preschool! We hope the children have enjoyed their first few days back, the new children are settling in to their time with us, getting to know their new friends and the routines of preschool. We are enjoying getting to know them too!

We are very excited about the new term, creating new experiences for the children. We are very lucky that Debenham preschool is in such a great location, situated within the primary school. Last term we were joined by some of the year 6 students to come and spend time with the children. The students were their “Buddies” whether it was sitting reading to them or discovering science projects, working together by building boats and learning about buoyancy. It was such a great success that we will continue to do this on a regular basis throughout the coming term.

Also we are lucky to have such a great local community, we will continue to have regular visits to the library and be involved as much as we can as it is of great importance to us to be a part of it. Which brings me to the families – we could not continue without your support! The committee have worked so hard fund raising to provide trips and new resources such as new computers to enable us to use Tapestry. Also giving up their time to tidy up preschool over the summer and making sure it was pristine – ready for the new term – THANK YOU! We have our AGM on Monday 7th October at 7:30pm if you would like to join the committee or find out more please come along! Everyone is welcome!

I hope you have all received your Tapestry log in details via email by now. If you have any issues at all please don’t hesitate to ask! We have a laptop available for parents to view Tapestry at drop off/pick up if you need. I have added a login button on the Debenham Preschool web page to give easier login access. It is very easy to use and add comments/photos yourselves. We will not be adding vast amounts of observations/photos of children all the time as we want to spend as much quality time with the children, rather than making lots of notes!

Kindest regards,

Rachel, Kath, Beccy, Jane, Simone, Anna & Carmen   🙂
