Week beginning 25th January 2016

This week we are learning all about Kath and her family.

In the water this week we can “catch numbers”, recognising and naming numbers and using nets to catch the numbered balls.  In the sand we can play in “Fairyland”, building stories around the toys.

The activities this week will include: group P.E., making a favourite fruit graph, using the flip camera, Forest School activity, making pirate patches/telescopes/maps, playing ‘what’s in the bag?’, playing in the sensory room, cutting and sticking, slime and marble/ping pong ball painting.

Visit from the Community Dental Nurse

This morning we had a visit from the Community Dental Nurse, she talked to us about how to brush our teeth and how to keep them healthy by eating healthy foods.  She also brought some clothing and pieces of dental equipment in for us to dress up in and use!

Week beginning 18th January 2016

This week we’re learning about Simone and her family.

In the sand we can play with dinosaurs and in the water there are sea creatures.

The activities this week will include:  a train hunt, small world play – castles, floor puzzles, glittery string prints, letters/pictures to our friends, group music time, making shredded sheep!, rhyming game, making smoothies and squirty bottle paintings.

Drippy glue!

This morning we have been using some drippy glue to make pretty pictures, we also used our fingers to pick up some some sequins to make them all sparkly.

Imps Creativity Workshop!

This morning we invited Rachel Baker from Imps Creativity to help us promote childrens’ physical development and early writing skills.   Upon arrival there were activities set up for the children to explore, these included: paper pulp squeezing and moulding, melting wax crayons to make unusual and fascinating pictures, pegging out washing on a mini washing line along with plastic cereal dispensers filled with colourful straws where we had to turn the handles for the straws to drop out.  The morning seemed to be a hit with the children and they tried new and varied activities, the staff loved seeing how some traditional toys (eg metal spinning tops and wind up toys) could build muscle strength and promote early writing.    After snack we headed out into the garden where the most popular activities were huge plastic sheets attached to the trellis for painting with rollers  and also a metre square tray filled with warm soapy water and large mops to splash in it!
If you joined us for a play, we hope you had fun!  We have taken lots of pictures which we put on display.

Monday Morning Fun!

Good evening!  We would like to remind everyone of the forthcoming session which is open to all children and parents / carers on Monday 11th January.  We have invited Imps Creativity to deliver a tailor made, fun filled activity morning to help promote children’s development and support early writing skills.  We would love as many parents / carers as possible to come and share the fun!  If your child is not normally at pre-school on a Monday morning we would ask that you stay with them to help maintain our safe staff/child ratios.  If your child attends a morning session, you are warmly invited to stay and enjoy the fun too!  We would be grateful if you could let us know either by email or by telephone if you are coming.  Thank you very much, with kindest regards.  Pip, Kath, Jo, Beccy, Jane and Simone

Newsletter Spring Term 2016

Welcome back to pre-school!

We hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year holiday.  May the staff take this opportunity to thank you for the very thoughtful cards and generous gifts we were given at the end of last term.

After our lovely (and relaxing!) break, we are all very much looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

We hope you are aware that as a team we are committed to providing learning opportunities for the children that are based on their specific interests and abilities.  Therefore, this term, we have transformed our ‘themed area’ into the ‘Roundabout Shop’.  We have observed that several of the children are keen on writing and in particular, making lists.  We have used some of our ‘Early Years Pupil Premium’ funding to purchase some new pretend food to support this area.

Last term, we found that several of the children enjoyed bringing things in to show the group for our daily ‘circle time’ sessions.  This is a really valuable way to support childrens’ communication skills (both talking and listening) whilst also building their self-confidence.  The staff are always thrilled to share these experiences with children and we would encourage you to support your child if they are keen to bring something in to show us.   A leaf or small empty cardboard box can be very exciting and can offer a learning opportunity.  There is a special drawstring bag on each child’s peg where they can put their ‘special’ items to avoid them getting lost!

Our ‘Interest table’ will be focussing on the theme All About Me!  Each week, one member of staff will bring in items from home that will help us to learn a little more about them.  We hope this will demonstrate to children that we are all different and that we have different families, interests, likes and dislikes.  We feel it is important to encourage children to understand that we should welcome and value these similarities or differences and show respect for our friends, families and the wider community.

On Monday 11th January 2016 we have invited Rachel Baker from Imps Creativity to our pre-school for what promises to be a very exciting morning of play and exploration!  Using some of the Pupil Premium funding we have arranged a tailor made, fun and practical session for the morning and we are inviting all parents and children to this session.  Rachel will be sharing some excellent activities and ideas to support children’s development whilst offering lots of fun at the same time!  Please be advised that if your child is not normally here for the session, we would ask that you stay with your child so that we keep our staff / child ratios safe.  Please could you confirm if you would like to join the session so we have an approximate idea of numbers.

We would like to remind you that we do play out in the garden every day, could we ask that your child comes to pre-school with suitable outdoor clothing according to the weather, wellies, waterproof coats, gloves etc!   If they arrive in wellies, please could they have some other shoes to wear inside, as the floor can get very muddy and slippery.

Finally, listed below are some important dates for your diary, a date for parents evening will be confirmed in the next few weeks.  We would like to stress that your child’s Learning Journey is available for you to read through at any time, you do not have to wait until parents evening.   Additionally, if you have any queries then please do come and talk to us.  If you are unable to come into pre-school please call us, if we cannot come to the telephone do leave a message on the answer machine and we will call you back as soon as possible.  If you would prefer, we can be contacted by e-mail at: debenhamrps@btinternet.com.

With kindest regards from us all.

Pip, Kath, Jo, Beccy, Jane and Simone
