We would like to remind you that our AGM is on Monday at 7.30pm, this is an opportunity to meet other parents, have a drink and some nibbles. We have a large number of our current committee stepping down this year and we need these places to be filled. The pre-school will not run if we do not have a full committee. If you are unable to attend but are interested in joining please contact any member of staff or current committee members. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible to ensure that our valuable charity continues to run.
We have had a very kind and generous donation from Webster’s newsagents to support our pre-school. With this money we have purchased a wonderful, new three sided easel for the garden. It has already offered the chance for children to draw and paint, and is proving to be very popular! With many thanks from us all, we really appreciate your help!
This week we’re looking at and talking about yellow things. In the water we can catch yellow ducks in our nets and in the sand we can dig for pirate treasure.
The activities this week include: P.E. in the school hall, playing with Pixie, forest school – dinosaur hunt, yellow kim’s game, making patterns and drawing in toothpaste, making yellow picture rubbings, corn on the cob painting, dinosaur shadows, yellow fish paper plate collage and wobble bear says yellow story sack.
We got the woodwork tools out today and very carefully used the drill to make holes and hammered in some nails.
Newsletter September 2015
Welcome to a new term, we hope you had a lovely summer. We are very much looking forward to seeing you all again and also getting to know the new children and their families who are joining us this term. We are also delighted to let you know that we have a new member of staff, Simone, who has joined our team.
As usual, the staff has been using their observations on children’s interests to direct the ‘themes’ we will be talking about this term. We have noticed that some children needed some support recognising colours, so each week our ‘interest table’ will feature a colour. We will be talking about and noticing colours whilst we read books, play both indoors and outdoors and also have our snack! We have found that some children really enjoy showing items from home at our ‘show and tell time’; sometimes they find it very exciting if it matches a particular idea we are focussing on! Therefore, we have listed below what colours we will be talking about each week, if you wanted to help your child find something to bring in.
Weeks 1 and 2 – Friday 4th September – Red
Week 3 – Monday 14th September – Blue
Week 4 – Monday 21st September – Green
Week 5 – Monday 28th September – Yellow
Week 6 – Monday 5th October – Pink
Week 7 – Monday 12th October – White
Week 8 – Monday 19th October – Black
We also found that lots of children are particularly enjoying all sorts of construction type toys, so our themed corner will be focussing on different types of resources that we can build with. Throughout the term we will be including different types of equipment, things to measure with, chalk boards, white boards and lots of small pads of paper to encourage children to start ‘writing’.
We would like to thank you for all the positive comments we received in last term’s questionnaires. We cannot express how much we value your comments, thoughts and suggestions. We had some very interesting ideas about how we could spend the additional funding that we receive from the government; we are looking into these and will keep you all informed. As a pre-school, we would like to develop our communication with parents, the more information that we share together will enable us to plan better and support your child’s learning. This term, we have a new parent board above the lunchbox shelves. We hope to use this to share articles and information that we think you might find interesting.
We would like to remind you all that we a nut free zone, this includes foods such as peanut butter, cereal bars, biscuits or chocolate bars that contain nuts. We would ask you to be extra careful about this please when preparing children’s packed lunch, as we have a child within our setting with multiple food allergies.
We have arranged a visit from Tempest Photography to take individual pictures of the children, these are always very popular Christmas presents! She will be with us from 8.50am on Thursday 8th October 2015, everyone is welcome so do pop in early in the session if you would like to have your child’s photograph taken, siblings are also welcome too!
We will be holding parents evening at the end of term, when your child’s key worker will invite you to share the Learning Journey with them. However, please be assured that you are able to look through the Learning Journey and talk to us at any time, you don’t have to wait until parents evening, we are here to listen. Alternatively, you are very welcome to drop us an email or leave a message on the answer machine if we are closed, we will get back to you as quickly as we can.
The committee will be holding their AGM on Monday 5th October, everyone is invited to come along! We hope to see lots of new faces joining on our next committee, there are different opportunities for you to become involved with the group, if you are interested, please do ask us.
Finally, if there are any aspects of your child’s care and education that you would like to discuss, then please do come and talk to us.
With best wishes from us all,
Pip, Kath, Jo, Beccy, Jane and Simone

A big thank you to the comittee for fitting our new waterfall guttering. The children have loved squirting and dripping water down it and watching it trickle.
We have been using huge paper to encourage early writing skills.
It’s green week at pre-school, we are looking at and talking about green things. In the water we are playing with big and small jugs and bottles and ordering them by size. In the sand we are using buckets and spades to make sandcastles.
This weeks activities will include: Story sack (Peace at Last), P.E. in the school hall, whole group music session, Forest School, green seed shakers, woodwork, green basket sorting activity, making guacamole, green paper plate turtles and a pea pod wall display.
We made some blue binnoculars and used them to look for things in the garden.
